abstract = {We would like to present a new control system for the solar telescope now in operation at the Swiss institute, Istituto Ricerche Solari Locarno (IRSOL). The control software is multi-client capable, and optionally uses the primary image of the sun projected on a position sensor or the axis encoder for guiding. The hardware and software consist of three completely separate levels, which communicate with each other via ASCII commands. We shall describe the general principles implemented in the course of the development. We consider it important that this text is also applicable to other astronomical device controls. Therefore we explain our specific solution next to general principles.},

abstract = {This paper reports the measurements that have been performed both in the Silicon Detector Laboratory at the University of Insubria (Como, Italy) and at the Instituto Ricerche SOlari Locarno (IRSOL) to characterize a CMOS pixel particle detector as a visible light camera. The CMOS sensor has been studied in terms of Quantum Efficiency in the visible spectrum, image blooming and reset inefficiency in saturation condition. The main goal of these measurements is to prove that this kind of particle detector can also be used as an ultra fast, 100% fill factor visible light camera in solar physics experiments.},

abstract = {The primary image reflected from the field stop of solar Gregory telescopes is used for automatic guiding. This new system avoids temporal varying influences from the bending of the telescope tube by the main mirror's gravity and from offsets between the telescope and a separate guiding refractor. The required stiffness of the guider mechanics and the small areas of the sensors demand small f numbers for the guider optics, which cause problems with the image quality and with heat. Problems also arise from the pinhole in the telescope's field stop which is imaged as a dark dot on the sensor. Pointing errors introduced by the telescope affect shifts of the solar image on the sensor. These are numerically determined by Fourier methods which are found to be less sensitive to noise than profile centering methods. Several types of guiders are tested, the final equipment, now installed at the Gregory telescopes at Tenerife and at Locarno, is described.},
